NIMS has been a coalition member of "NanoTerasu", The next-generation synchrotron radiation facility, since 2020 and has been positively considering the use of the facility. We expect that research cooperation with PhoSIC will be further strengthened for the start of full-scale operation of NanoTerasu in April 2024.

NanoTerasu is the world's most advanced next-generation synchrotron radiation facility built on Tohoku University's new Aobayama campus, funded by the national government, local communities, and private companies. It is said to be "a giant microscope that can see down to the nano level.
PhoSIC has been involved in the construction and maintenance of NanoTerasu in collaboration with Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City, Tohoku University, Tohoku Economic Federation and National Institute for Quantum Science and Technology (QST), and will be responsible for the operation of the facility when it becomes fully operational from April 2024.
