Research Policy

As a Designated National Research and Development Institute, NIMS aims to create world-class achievements in materials science and technology.


Mission

NIMS was established with the aim of improving the level of materials science and technology by carrying out the following tasks based on the Japanese law “Act on the National Institute for Materials Science, National Research and Development Agency.”
  • Fundamental and basic research and development related to materials science and technology
  • Dissemination of research results and promotion of their applications
  • Shared use of NIMS facilities and equipment
  • Training of researchers and engineers
Through these tasks, NIMS plays a role as a core institution leading the field of materials science.
