As Japan’s national research and development institute dedicated to materials research, NIMS has created numerous materials that have changed the world. But requirements for materials change significantly with the times, so NIMS continues to carry out world-leading research aiming for greater achievements in materials development.

Credit card payment
If you wish to make a payment by credit card (VISA, MASTERCARD, JCB, American Express), please use the link below.

(For reference) Payment procedure (takes approximately 10 minutes)
- Click on the link and choose the ‘Donation Site’ button.
- Enter your email address and click the "Start Donation" button.
- A "Donation Start Notification Email" will be sent to the email address provided; please click on the payment URL given in the email.
- After agreeing to the handling of personal information, enter the required information such as the donation amount and purpose according to the input screen.
- Enter your credit card information for the donation and complete the procedure.
- A "Donation Procedure Completion Email" will be sent by the system.
- After confirming the receipt of the donation, NIMS will issue and send a "Donation Receipt Certificate (receipt)."
Payment at a bank in Japan
If you wish to transfer a payment by visiting a bank, please follow the steps below.
- Complete the "Donation/Research Grant Application Form" available at the link below and submit it via email to the email address below.
- After receiving the "Donation/Research Grant Application Form" we will send you an "Acceptance Notification & Payment Request Form" within 10 business days.
- At the bank, please transfer the donation to the account specified in the "Acceptance Notification & Payment Request Form".
- After confirming receipt of the donation, NIMS will issue and send a "Donation Receipt Certificate” (receipt).

Tax benefits for donations (Deductions for donations in tax returns)
NIMS is designated as a "Specific Public Benefit Promoting Corporation" under Article 217, Paragraph 1, Item 1 of the Income Tax Act and Article 77, Paragraph 1, Item 1 of the Corporate Tax Act. Therefore, donations to NIMS are eligible for tax benefits.
For individual donors: income tax
When an individual makes a donation, the amount that can be deducted from their taxable income is the total donation amount (up to 40 percent of the individual's income) minus 2,000 yen (donation deduction system).
For corporate donors: corporate tax
Corporations can enter the amount of donations accepted as deductible expenses, subject to certain conditions.

Donation acceptance criteria
- Donations to NIMS are intended to cover our business expenses and are conditional on no quid pro quo* being offered.
- Donations that might hinder the objectives or operations of NIMS or are deemed socially inappropriate cannot be accepted.
* The act of a donor seeking technical information or technical guidance from NIMS in return for a donation, etc.
