Industrial and Academic Collaboration
Strengthening collaboration with institutions in Japan and around the world for the dissemination of research outcomes
NIMS actively promotes collaboration with external institutions, thereby returning research outcomes to society in various forms. For instance, carrying out collaborative research with companies, universities, and other research institutes has opened up possibilities that could not have been achieved by a single entity. As a core institution in the field of materials science, NIMS promotes cooperation and exchanges with research institutes in Japan and around the world, working toward the globalization of materials science and striving to build a research network for the next generation.
Discover NIMS research
As Japan’s only public institution specialized in materials science research, NIMS is expected to follow the basic science and technology policy set out by the government and the five-year medium-term plan based on it. This is part of NIMS’s contribution to the advancement of materials science research and technology. The government determines basic policy and the medium-term plan according to the needs of society, and in recent years there has been a particular emphasis on solving global issues related to the environment, energy, and resources through materials science research. The range of materials science work that NIMS pursues includes research that responds to these societal needs.
