NIMS uses informatics to collect, database, and disseminate scientific information. Leveraging our position as a specialized institution for research in the field of materials science, we actively disseminate the data we generate not only within NIMS but also more broadly, both nationally and internationally. We also facilitate the distribution of information through collaboration with related institutions.

Publication of academic journals and research results

As a specialized institution for materials science research, we publish academic journals that specialize in materials science, thereby contributing to the advancement of materials research in Japan.

Academic journal Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM)

This is an English-language academic journal that leverages NIMS's unique high-quality peer review and editorial system. It is a selective compendium of leading materials research papers covering all major research on materials. As a 'gold' model open access journal (meaning that all papers are permanently and freely available online), articles are available for anyone to view over the Internet.

STAM Methods

Launched in 2021 as a sister journal to STAM, this is an English-language academic journal specializing in methods that accelerate materials science research, including materials informatics, machine learning, high-throughput synthesis, and evaluation. Like STAM, it is a gold model open access journal, with articles accessible to anyone online.

NIMS Monographs series

These are specialized books written by NIMS researchers and published by our partner publisher, Springer. They cover everything from the principles and theories of materials research up to recent application cases in each field.
