NIMS Signs MOC with Empa, Switzerland

On June 12, 2026, NIMS has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for research collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa).
In September 2025, Prof. Matthias Sulzer, Head of the Department of Engineering Sciences, visited NIMS as representative of the Director of Empa. He exchanged opinions with NIMS President Kazuhiro Hono on future collaboration, which served as a catalyst for the conclusion of this MOC.

NIMS and Empa have been strengthening their cooperation through joint activities, including the support for the publication of academic journals Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM) and Science and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods (STAM Methods). The signing of this MOC is expected to further enhance collaborative research activities between the two institutions.
