NIMS Award 2025 Presented to Three Leading Researchers of Perovskite Solar Cells

NIMS held the ceremony for the NIMS Award 2025 on November 11 at the Tsukuba International Congress Center, Tsukuba, Japan. The ceremony was carried out as part of the NIMS Award Symposium 2025 and attended by a large number of participants.

The NIMS Award was established in 2007 to honor researchers that have made outstanding achievements in one of the four major areas of materials science: "Materials for Environment and Energy", "Functional Materials", "Structural Materials" and "Basic Materials Science". The selection is conducted through a rigorous process by a committee consisting of leading experts from around the world.

This year, the NIMS Award went to three distinguished researchers from the Materials for Environment and Energy field: Prof. Tsutomu Miyasaka from Toin University of Yokohama, Prof. Henry J. Snaith from the University of Oxford, and Prof. Nam-Gyu Park from Sungkyunkwan University.

Over 500 people attended the award ceremony and symposium.
At the ceremony, NIMS President Kazuhiro Hono presented medals and certificates to the three awardees, receiving loud applause from the packed audience.

Following the ceremony, the NIMS Award Symposium featured award-winning lectures, invited talks from researchers in related fields, and presentations by NIMS researchers. The invited speakers were Prof. Masakazu Sugiyama from the University of Tokyo, Prof. Yi Hou from the National University of Singapore, Prof. Atsushi Wakamiya from Kyoto University, Dr. Takurou Murakami from AIST, Prof. Yuko Takeoka from Sophia University, and Dr. Yukihiro Kaneko from Panasonic Holdings Corporation. In addition, researchers at NIMS presented their latest research. Participants expressed that the symposium provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the development of perovskite solar cells, from their origins to applications.
