Licensing and Research Collaboration with Japanese and Non-Japanese Companies
Thank you for your interest in research at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). This site is intended for companies. Universities and public institutions in Japan and overseas that are interested in collaboration should refer to this section.
Before making an inquiry using this form, please be aware of the following points:
- NIMS does not sell research samples.
We can in principle make available research samples as a preliminary step, envisaging a future collaborative research agreement or licensing.
A material evaluation agreement will be concluded in such cases. - NIMS does not undertake commissioned research that does not include an element of research and development by a private company.
International research collaboration
Although in principle NIMS aims to collaborate on research without distinguishing between Japanese and non-Japanese companies, we are a public institution established to enhance materials science and technology within Japan. For this reason, the following guidelines have been put in place for collaboration with non-Japanese companies:
- In principle, we will collaborate with companies that have business operations (sales, employment, etc.) in Japan and contribute by paying taxes in Japan.。
- In principle, collaborations are aimed at promoting the dissemination and utilization of research results for the development of Japan's economy and industry.
