Fixed Term ICYS PI and ICYS Research Fellow

ICYS provides the best environment and support for young researchers to pursue independent research based on their own ideas.

The greatest feature of the International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS) is that young researchers can pursue independent, self-directed research in various fields of materials science, developed from their original ideas. ICYS recruits promising young scientists who aim to become leading researchers in the future, providing them with the outstanding research environment at NIMS and comprehensive support from the center.

ICYS offers two programs:

ICYS PI

Description: Build and manage your own small-scale research unit and pioneer unique research areas recognized globally
Term: 5 years
Support: Annual research budget of 4 million yen; salary equivalent to or higher than young associate professors at Japanese universities

ICYS Research Fellow

Description: Promote highly flexible research and realize your original ideas
Term: 3 years (up to a maximum of 5 years)
Support: Annual research budget of 2 million yen; salary equivalent to or higher than assistant professors at Japanese universities

ICYS PI and ICYS Research Fellow positions are open for applications twice a year, around August/September and February/March.
