Work Description
General technical and laboratory support duties, including but not limited to:
  • Performing and preparing electrochemical measurements using potentiostats
  • Performing and preparing spectroscopic measurements using the optical waveguide spectrometer
  • Synthesis and sample preparation
  • Laboratory organization and maintenance (reagents, glassware, and consumables management)
  • Data organization and analysis  
Scope of Work Description Change Duties are subject to change within the scope of the Employee's position.
Qualification
The applicant must:
  • Have a master’s degree relevant in natural science, engineering, or some other field relevant to the job.
  • Pay careful attention to detail and be able to follow experimental protocols accurately
  • Be able to work cooperatively with team members
  • Have basic computer skills (e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets)
  • Be interested in learning new techniques both inside and outside the lab
  • Be able to communicate in English
The following conditions are preferable but not mandatory.
  • Have prior laboratory or technical work experience
  • Be able to communicate in Japanese
  • Data analysis using Python
Starting Date As soon as possible after selection (negotiable)
Term Until March 31st, 2027. Renewed upon favorable evaluation.
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal will be judged based on work performance, progress of assigned duties, workload at the time of contract expiration, and funding situations.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Namiki-Site (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki)
Scope of Work Location Changes Any campus of the institute as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours Starting at 1 day per week, Minimum time 3 hours, maximum time 7 hours and 45 minutes per day. Possible increase depending on experience, and aptitude (negotiable).
Break time: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM if the working day spans midday.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year Holidays (Dec. 29 to Jan. 3rd), annual paid leave, and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
Hourly wage, between 1200 yen and 2000 yen per hour, determined based on skills and experience.
Eligible for flex time work, depending on how independent the candidate can perform their role.
Commuting allowance provided (conditions apply).
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
