Work Description
We conduct research on surface chemistry—such as the synthesis of carbon nanostructures—using an extreme high-vacuum, low-temperature atomic force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy system.

Qualification
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or possess equivalent expertise in fields such as physics, chemistry, materials science, or electrical engineering.
Proficiency in English communication is required.
This research involves a new interdisciplinary field combining optical microscopy and chemistry; we are seeking candidates who are eager to expand their own research horizons.
Candidates with an interest in instrumentation development are particularly welcome.
Starting Date 1st November 2026 or later (negotiable)
Term One year from the date of appointment
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors.The maximum employment period shall not exceed five (5) years. This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, sengen-Site (Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan)
Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer's site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours and 45 minutes per day, 5 days a week; break time: 12:00–13:00.
Under the discretionary labor system, the deemed working time is 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays, New Year holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
In accordance with the NIMS Regulations on Remuneration for Fixed-Term Employees
Monthly salary: 376,380 JPY – 446,210 JPY
Includes deemed overtime allowance (refer to Article 13-2 of the NIMS Regulations on Remuneration for Fixed-Term Employees)
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Worker’s Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
