On May 16th, 2024, NIMS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for research collaboration with Ames National Laboratory, USA. It is expected that the research collaboration will be stimulated and strengthened through this MOU.

Ames National laboratory is a top-level national laboratory which belongs to United States Department of Energy (DOE) and is located on the campus of Iowa State University. The laboratory especially conducts research in the areas of national concerns, including new materials, energy resources, high-speed computer design, and environmental issues.

In 2013, the Critical Materials Institute (CMI) at Ames Laboratory was established with a mission of developing solutions to the domestic shortages of rare-earth materials and critical materials. In December 2023, the Director of CMI, Dr. Thomas Lograsso visited NIMS with scientists from Ames and held a workshop with NIMS researchers. Ames and NIMS have deepened exchanges.
