H.E. Mr. Demeke Mekonnen Hassen, Deputy Prime Minister, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia visited NIMS on June 14, 2017.
H.E. Mr. Demeke Mekonnen Hassen, Deputy Prime Minister, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia visited NIMS accompanied by H.E. Dr. Ing. Getahun Mekuria Kuma, Minister of Science and Technology, H.E. Dr. Samuel Kifle Kidane, State Minister of Education, H.E. Mr. Cham Ugala Uriat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan and some government officials.
His Excellency and the delegation received the introduction of NIMS after the meeting with President Hashimoto. H.E. Mr. Demeke mentioned current status of economics, educations, materials research and future plan of the establishment of research center in Ethiopia.
Education and human resources development in Ethiopia was also discussed.
Ethiopia is one of the most active countries in Africa improving education, and the delegation took a special interest in the supporting system to foster students and young researchers at NIMS.
After the discussion, the delegation visited laboratories of structural materials, vibration dampers, latest electron microscopy, creep testing facility and saw the live demonstration of thermal spay processes.
NIMS could be of assistance to the development of materials research in Ethiopia in the future.
