Detection of trace amounts of water through solvent vapors!

Focusing on the property of DNA to swell when it hydrates with trace amounts of water, we developed a sensor to detect trace amounts of water in organic solvents (less than one part per million concentration) by measuring their vapors. This sensor realizes simple, non-contact, and real-time detection/monitoring of trace water, which has been limited to measurement in liquids such as Karl Fischer titration. This work was made by a collaborative work between NIMS and The University of Tokyo.
