Work Description
A postdoctoral researcher position on microstructural analysis of various metallic materials using SEM, Cs-corrected TEM, and 3D atom probe. The relevant projects include the analysis of the distribution of trace hydrogen in steel using cryo-FIB and 3D atom probe. Successful candidate is also expected to perform nano- ~ atomic-level microstructure analyses to clarify the process-structure-property relationships in various metallic materials, including structural and functional materials. Candidates must have hands-on experience using Cs-corrected TEM. Research experience in using atom probe is preferred but not mandatory.
Scope of Work Description Change Duties are subject to change within the scope of the Employee’s position.
Qualification
  • Ph.D. in materials science
  • Prior experience using Cs-corrected TEM
Starting Date January 1, 2026 or later (negotiable)
Term 1 Year
(Possibly up to 5 Years with Annual Evaluation and funding situation)
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors. (This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.)

Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day or discretionary labor system, 5 days a week
Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year Holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
Monthly salary 317,570 yen ~410,460 yen (To be determined in accordance with the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
Commuting allowance and national insurance will also be covered.
Fixed overtime pay included in monthly salary(Article 10, item 3 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Worker’s Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
