Work Description
The successful candidate will engage in research and development aimed at improving the performance of superconducting materials and wires. Specific activities include fundamental research on the synthesis of superconducting materials, fabrication and characterization of superconducting wires, and development of superconducting joint technologies. The candidate will also conduct materials and process design based on thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs energy and chemical potential, while utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) as research-support tools to accelerate and enhance the efficiency of materials design and research and development.
Scope of Work Description Change Duties are subject to change within the scope of the Employee’s position.
Qualification
  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree or be expected to obtain one.
  • Applicants should have research experience in materials processing, such as alloy fabrication, solid-state diffusion synthesis, and wire drawing.
  • Applicants should have experience in microstructural characterization and analysis using techniques such as XRD, SEM, and EBSD.
  • Applicants should have knowledge or experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) and be capable of applying these techniques to materials research and developing AI-based research-support platforms.
Starting Date November 1,2026 or later
Term One year from the date of appointment, with the possibility of renewal subject to annual review.
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors. The maximum employment period shall not exceed five (5) years. This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Sengen site, Tsukuba,Japan.
Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week
* Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year Holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
Monthly salary 325,360~ 493,012 yen (To be determined in accordance with the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
※Deemed overtime allowance included in monthly salary (Article 13-2 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term)
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Worker’s Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
