Work Description
A post doc position for developing materials and fabricating devices for novel thermoelectric applications using the transverse thermoelectric effect in magnetic materials. By using machine learning-based material prediction and combinatorial deposition techniques, a successful applicant will conduct high-throughput search and characterization of promising materials that exhibit large thermoelectric effects due to their electronic structures, such as topological materials.
Scope of Work Description Change Duties are subject to change within the scope of the Employee’s position.
Qualification
  1. Ph.D. in materials science, applied physics or physics
  2. Specialized knowledge in magnetic materials or thermoelectricity is required. Experience in thin film fabrication, magnetic property characterization, thermoelectric property measurement, or first-principles calculations is desirable.
Starting Date April 2026 or later (negotiable)
Term one year (renewable up to 5 years with annual evaluation)
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors. The maximum employment period shall not exceed five (5) years.(This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.)
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Sengen-site (Tsukuba, Ibaraki)
Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week
* Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year Holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
Monthly salary 339,520yen ~
Deemed overtime allowance included in monthly salary
(PDF: Article 13-2 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees *Japanese)
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Workers’ Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirement.
