Job Summary
The candidate is expected to work on either of the following research themes:
  1. Research using large-scale first-principles calculations and machine learning methods for atomic and electronic structures of metal nanoparticle catalysts.
  2. Research using large-scale first-principles calculations and machine learning methods for next-generation semiconductors and quantum materials.
  3. Development of large-scale DFT (density functional theory) calculation methods and theoretical study of nano-scale materials using the methods. 
Scope of Job Description Changes Duties are subject to change within the scope of the Employee’s position.
Qualification
The applicant must have or is expected to have a Ph. D. in a relevant discipline before the start of the work. A strong background in computational materials science and/or electronic structure calculation methods is essential.

Starting Date as early as possible (up to negotiation)
Term 1 Year (Possibly up to 5 Years with Annual Evaluation)
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors. The maximum employment period shall not exceed five (5) years. This may be subject to change because of amendments to Working Regulations.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Namiki-Site (Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan)
Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a Day
*Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, New Year holidays, annual paid leave, and other holidays as stipulated in the NIMS Regulations
Salary / Supply
Followed by NIMS regulations. Commutation allowance and national insurance are also provided.
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Workers' accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
