Site Visits
NIMS has no permanent exhibition space for individual public visits. This means that tours at NIMS consist of guided visits, led by a tour coordinator, to working research sites such as laboratories and experimental rooms. Anyone wishing to visit should apply via the special form.
As a rule, high school and younger students must visit accompanied by teachers, while college and graduate students may come on a tour independently. Tours to our facilities are a great opportunity for students to consider future studies or career paths.
Note: For those interested in combining a tour with other research institutions in Tsukuba, we suggest consulting the Tsukuba Science Tour Office of the Science and Technology Promotion General Incorporation Foundation of Ibaraki.
Tour size
We accept tours from approximately 10 to a maximum of 40 participants.
Preparation for your visit
- The facilities included in your tour depend on circumstances. We will inform you of what you will visit.
- Please check the access information to avoid confusion between the Namiki and Sengen sites, as mix-ups are common.
- Please aim to arrive 10 minutes before the start of your tour. If your arrival time is different from that planned, please contact the tour coordinator by phone. Contact details will be provided via email by the coordinator.
- You will tour the premises on foot. Please inform us in advance if you require barrier-free needs, such as a wheelchair.
For those arriving by chartered bus
- Please leave large luggage on the bus. Since you will be walking around the facilities, please come as light as possible, bringing only writing materials and drinks.
- Occasionally, schools arrive significantly earlier than the appointed time. Since our meeting room may be busy, if you arrive early, you may be asked to wait in the bus until the appointed time. We appreciate the cooperation of accompanying teachers in keeping to the appointed arrival time.
- Upon entry into the Sengen site by bus, security personnel will guide you to the parking lot. Please follow their instructions. There is no special procedure for entry.
- Upon entry into the Namiki site by bus, the tour coordinator will guide you to the parking lot. There is no special procedure for entry.
For those arriving by public transportation
Please inform the security office at each site that you are visiting for a general tour. There is no special procedures for entry.
