Job Summary
Theoretical research using first-principles calculations. The postdoctoral researcher will be engaged in developing and applying novel first-principles computational methods or software infrastructure for data-driven approaches.
Target application domains include magnetic materials, semiconductors, superconductors, and dielectrics. Specific research topics will be selected within this scope, based on the postdoctoral researcher’s interests and expertise.

Qualification
  •  Ph.D. in physics, material science, or other related fields.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written).
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in physics or materials science
  • Experience with first-principles electronic structure calculations using software such as VASP or Quantum ESPRESSO.Experience in code development or data analysis using programming languages such as Fortran, C++, or Python.
  • Interest in data-driven approaches.
Starting Date July 2025 (negotiable)
Term 1 year
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situaion, and other factors. The maximum employment period shall not exceed 5 years. This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.
Work Place NIMS Sengen site (Tsukuba, Japan)
Scope of Work Location Changes Other sites at Employer, as well as locations approved by case.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week
Break : 12:00-13:00
It is possible to work on discretionary base with deemed working hours at 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturday, Sunday, and National Holidays, New Year Holidays, annual paid leave and other holidays as stipulated in the Working Regulations.
Salary / Supply
Monthly salary 344,860–410,460 yen* (To be determined in accordance with the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
* Fixed overtime pay included in monthly salary (Article 10, item 3 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)
Trial Period Two months from the start date of employment
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance and Workers’ accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
