Delegation team from Canada visited NIMS

On Tuesday, 31st January, a delegation of nine organizations consists of two universities (University of Waterloo and McMaster University), six private companies, and Deep Tech Canada which is a networking organization connecting members of industry, government, and academia, accompanied by commercial officers representing the Embassy of Canada in Japan, the province of Alberta and Ontario Investment & Trade office in Japan, visited NIMS in order to find out new networking good opportunities with NIMS.

During the lab tour, Dr. Toru Hara (Director of the Electron Microscopy Analysis Station) introduced the advantages of NIMS's microstructure analysis equipment and research topics using NIMS’s TEM.
Then, Dr. Shigeki Kawai (Group leader of the Nano-probe Group) introduced his cutting-edge research on nanocarbon materials using a high-resolution scanning probe microscope, and Dr.Keisuke Sagisaka (Principal Researcher) and Dr. Shunsuke Yoshizawa (Senior Researcher) introduced their advanced materials research topics using low temperature and high magnetic field scanning tunneling microscopes at their laboratory.

After the above-mentioned lab tour, an overview of NIMS was given by Dr. Tomonobu Nakayama (Director of Global Networking Division), and short speech was given by Deep Tech Canada member on the expectation for collaboration with NIMS at conference room #2 of the Central Building in Sengen campus.

NIMS has previously signed an inter-institutional MoU with the University of Waterloo, and further networking with Canada is expected to begin in the near future.
