2023.08.23 Update

The delegation from Fibrenamics / University of Minho (Portugal) visited NIMS on 5th July, 2023.

The delegation team consisted of key members of research and development sector for its original fiber reinforced composite which is named 'Fibrenamics' at the University of Minho and that team visited NIMS to exchange opinions with the NIMS researchers who have realized social implementation of NIMS research seeds and the NIMS researchers who are interested in composite materials research.

For the visit to the NIMS Venture companies, they visited the laboratory of Dr. Jie TANG*1, a senior scientist with special missions and the director of ‘Materials Innovation Tsukuba’*2, which was founded in November 2017 as a venture company of NIMS, based on the material technology to composite graphene as representative nano-carbon material, also they visited the laboratory of Dr. Genki YOSHIKAWA, NIMS group leader and director of ‘Qception’*3, which was founded in May 2022 to promote the social implementation of NIMS' original odor sensor. Then, the delegation team members exchanged the opinion with two directors of NIMS ventures using this opportunity.

The team also visited the laboratory of Dr. Masanobu NAITO*4, who has established good reputation on his many research achievements in the synthesis of various composite materials and their applications and had a lively question and answer session with him.

The University of Minho is a research-focused university located in northern Portugal, known for its commitment to the valorization of knowledge, to put emphasis on the social implementation of research results, and its success in terms of corporate collaboration.
In this University, 48% of total student population which is over 19,000 is graduate students and this high ratio of number of graduate students to total student population shows that the University is putting a lot of efforts into its research.
In addition, the University of Minho is committed to internationalization, and more than 80% of the enrolled international students whose number is more than 2,900 engaged in the research.

It is expected that the ties between NIMS and the University of Minho will be strengthened through the acceptance of internship students from the University of Minho and the exchange of young researchers in the near future.
