Magnetic materials are widely used in many applications such as mobile phones, electric motors and hybrid vehicles. The energy efficiency of these devices can be increased improving magnetic properties, thereby leading to energy saving. The magnetic materials have also been used in data storage and memory devices. Energy-efficient data storage and computing are expected to be very important in the coming "super-smart society" or "Society 5.0" in the 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan of Japan, where a huge amount of data must be stored and processed.
Research Center for Magnetic and Spintronic Materials (CMSM) carries out basic and applied research on magnetic and spintronic materials that can contribute to the development of energy efficient devices, data storage devices, non-volatile memories and magnetic sensors for the super-smart society.
