Environment

MANA is situated at the center of Tsukuba Science City, a hub for numerous national research and educational institutions, fostering a cooperative and innovative research environment with other research institutions and universities. We are located adjacent to JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology).

Full Support in English

MANA promotes internationalization at every level by using English as the common language of communication. Our administrative staff, fluent in English, are committed to supporting foreign researchers, allowing them to focus entirely on their research endeavors

Seminars & Symposia

MANA actively promotes international collaboration through seminars and international symposia, offering young scientists invaluable opportunities for engagement. Our seminars, frequently hosted by MANA researchers and distinguished visiting scientists, along with the annual MANA International Symposium, provide platforms for young researchers to interact with world-leading scientists in lively discussions.

State-of-the-Art Research Facilities

We offer the most advanced core technology facilities within NIMS, supported by English-speaking engineering staff. This ensures that all researchers, regardless of their native language, have access to the tools and support they need for cutting-edge research

Melting Pot Café

Our building features numerous spaces where researchers from diverse nationalities and backgrounds can converge. These meeting points are the birthplaces of next-generation innovations, fostering a unique and vibrant community of ideas.

Number of Papers 8,475(2007-2023)

The number of papers published by researchers affiliated with MANA has been increasing every year, reaching 8,475 papers between 2007 and 2023. As mentioned later, MANA's publications have also achieved highly significant results in terms of both quality and impact.

Top 1% Highly Cited Papers 6.8%(2020-2022)

MANA's publications have had a significant impact not only domestically but also on researchers worldwide. This is evidenced by the high percentage of 6.8% of papers being in the top 1% most-cited, a remarkably large figure (Web of Science, as of March 1, 2024). Additionally, many researchers from MANA have been selected as "Highly Cited Researchers" by Clarivate Analytics.

Internationally Co-Authored Papers 75.6%(2007-2023)

The papers published by MANA reflect its mission and vision, with many being international co-authored papers. Since 2013, more than half of the total papers have been international co-authored, and in 2023, the percentage of international co-authored papers reached 75.6%.

FWCI(Field-weighted Citation Impact)2.11(2007-2023)

M's FWCI significantly exceeds the global average of 1.00 (domestic average of 0.93), with a figure that rivals the top research institutions in the world. This demonstrates the high citation impact of MANA's publications.

Patent Registrations 454 As of January 2024

The number of patents held by MANA, a research field full of potential in nanomaterials, has reached 454. This reflects MANA's proactive efforts in the development of new materials and technologies, covering both fundamental and applied research.
