Overview

Overview

The Research Center for Magnetic and Spintronic Materials (CMSM) carries out basic researches on magnetic and spintronic materials. Magnetic recording media and read sensors for ultrahigh density hard disk drives (HDD), tunneling magneto resistive devices for future magnetic random memory (MRAM) and new type of nonvolatile memory applications are expected to make substantial contribution to saving energy in the IT sector.

In addition, we carry out basic researches for the development of high performance permanent magnets and soft magnetic materials for the hybrid and electric vehicles. To achieve high performance in the magnetic materials and their devices, controlling the nanostructures of materials and devices is essential.

For this purpose, nanostructures of current and experimental devices are thoroughly investigated using advanced analytical techniques such as electron microscopy and atom probe tomography.
