The workshop "Frontiers of Two-Dimensional Materials" was held on October 7, 2026, at the Auditorium of the WPI-MANA Building (The Namiki site), NIMS.
The workshop "Frontiers of Two-Dimensional Materials" was held at the NIMS Namiki Site Auditorium, attracting 78 participants. The program included talks by four invited researchers and a poster session led mainly by students and postdoctoral researchers.
Prof.Koshino (Professor, The University of Tokyo) discussed theoretical advances in moiré superlattices, including structural relaxation and the formation and electronic properties of one-dimensional structures. Prof. Kanahashi ( Associate Professor,The University of Tokyo) presented techniques for doping two-dimensional semiconductors. Dr. Seo (Lecturer ,The University of Tokyo) described band-structure characterization using tunneling spectroscopy and graphene-probe atomic force microscopy. Prof.Hone (Professor, Columbia University) outlined progress in reducing defects and impurities in transition metal dichalcogenides, along with methods for identifying and characterizing them. Each talk sparked lively questions and discussion.
The poster session encouraged scientific exchange, as invited speakers visited and discussed individual posters. Most posters were presented by NIMS researchers and students, showcasing the broad and active research in two-dimensional materials at NIMS. Participants also came from the University of Tokyo, Muroran Institute of Technology, AIST, Shibaura Institute of Technology, and the University of Tsukuba.
The workshop showcased NIMS research, strengthened external connections, and encouraged potential collaborations.
