Hideo Hosono, Team leader of the ElectroActive Materials Team, received the Gordon E. Moore Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Solid State Science & Technology from the Electrochemical Society.
The Gordon E. Moore Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Solid State Science & Technology was first presented in 1971 under the name Solid State Science and Technology Award, recognizing significant contributions to the field of solid state science and technology. In 2005, the award was renamed after Gordon E. Moore, the originator of Moore’s Law.
Hideo Hosono, Team leader, has been recognized for his pioneering work on oxide semiconductors. In particular, design of transparent oxide semiconductors such as InGaZnOx(IGZO) and their application to thin film transistors for state-of the art displays are well recognized. In addition, he first realized bipolar oxide semiconductors and demonstrated CMOS operation using this material. He is the third Japanese recipient of this distinguished award.
