The "LANL/NIMS Quantum and Functional Materials and MANA International Symposium 2024" took place from October 15 (Tuesday) to October 17 (Thursday) at the Auditorium of the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Namiki Site. This 17th edition of the symposium was organized as a joint workshop between Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and NIMS.
The program spanned three days, with the first two days focused on "LANL/NIMS Quantum and Functional Materials," and the third day dedicated to the "MANA International Symposium."
Each day featured more than 10 presentations. On the first day, Dr. Michael Pettes (Deputy Group Leader, LANL) delivered a presentation. The second day featured a plenary talk by Dr. Avadh Saxena (Senior Scientist, LANL) and lectures from researchers at both LANL and NIMS. The final day included a plenary talk by Professor Atsuo Yamada (The University of Tokyo), along with presentations from other invited speakers and MANA researchers. Throughout the workshop, invited speakers participated in a laboratory tour, and young researchers from MANA showcased their work during a poster session, which stimulated lively discussions and exchanges of ideas.
The workshop attracted 372 participants, including 16 invited speakers from Japan and abroad. It concluded with engaging discussions, making it a highly meaningful event.

MANA Symposium 2024 Poster Award
On the second and third days of the workshop, this year's poster presentations featured 42 poster presenters. The award ceremony of this poster session took place on the evening of the third day (October 17), where four individuals received awards. The awardees were Barun Barman ,(Photonics Nano-Engineering Group ), Bella Jayanta (Quantum Device Engineering Group), Daiki Nishioka (ICYS Research Fellow), and Koki Nozawa (University of Tsukuba).
