(30 Mar, 2022 Update)

Toshikaze Kariyado, Senior Researcher (Nano-System Theoretical Physics Group) won double awards from the Physical Society of Japan: Outstanding Paper Award and Young Scientist Award.

Electrons in crystals sometimes show a different behavior from those in vacuum, which leads to device applications and the discovery of unknown phenomena. In particular, materials with their effective mass approaching zero, called Dirac electrons, have attracted much attention these days.

Dr. Kariyado has done pioneering work in the theoretical exploration of Dirac electron systems. The award was conferred in recognition of the theoretical demonstration that the Dirac electron is realized in a family of oxides with antiperovskite structure.

Prize Category Outstanding Paper Award of the Physical Society of Japan
Title Three-Dimensional Dirac Electrons at the Fermi Energy in Cubic Inverse Perovskites: Ca3PbO and Its Family
Prize Category Young Scientist Award of the Physical Society of Japan / Division 4 (Semiconductors, Mesoscopic Systems and Quantum Transport)
