Activity
We strongly promote R&D by flexible management
Since NIMS became an Independent Administrative Institution, the discretionary power of the President has been greatly expanded that results in faster decision-making and more flexible management. In particular, NIMS has introduced a number of innovations in both its research organization and its management system, with success in both areas. Shared Use of Facilities and Equipment
NIMS develops and constructs advanced facilities and equipment unavilable for many organizations, and provides opportunities for outside researchers to use these facilities.

Training of Researchers and Engineers
In addition to post-docs, NIMS also actively receives graduate students and trainees through the collaborative Doctoral Program, the Joint Graduate School Program, and other programs in order to produce creative researchers and engineers.

Improvement of Intellectual Infrastructure
NIMS publishes a variety of materials information which is necessary to enable researchers and engineers to select the optimum materials. NIMS also distributes new materials created in-house as standard materials in order to encourage their wide use in society.

NIMS aims at becoming an international research institute by cooperation with the eminent world's materials research centers, by positive use of foreign researchers, by maintaining international research environment, etc.

In order to transfer research outcomes created at NIMS to industry smoothly and thereby return these results to society in the future, NIMS is maintaining and developing its strong collaborative relationships with industry.

With the aims of improving NIMS's own research potential and contributing to scientific activities in universities, NIMS is constructing a research / analysis network and promoting collaborative research with universities utilizing their research capabilities.

Information gathering, analysis, and sending
NIMS analyzes a domestic and foreign material research trend, and publishes the issue of the information analysis magazine and the academic journal that the researcher can utilize. It also manages material portal site.
