Comprehensive Collaborative Agreement with Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM), University of Pennsylvania

(December 21st, 2011) Signing Ceremony of the Comprehensive Collaborative Agreement (a sister institute agreement) was held at NIMS Sengen site with Prof. Yodh, Director of LRSM, and NIMS President Ushioda in attendance.

Following the ceremony, the 1st LRSM-NIMS Materials Workshop was held, and delegates from LRSM and NIMS researchers presented their latest researches and they talked about a possibility of future research collaboration in group discussions.
On the second day, LRSM delegates received introduction of NIMS and after that, visited some laboratories at NIMS and got more understanding of various researches being conducted at NIMS.

LRSM was established as one of the 5 pioneering materials science laboratories by US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in 1960. It has been making tremendous contributions to the progress of materials science through its long history.
Furthermore, University of Pennsylvania is one of the world’s top-class universities founded in 1740, before the independent of the U.S. and it has produced 26 laureates of Novel Award.
NIMS and LRSM have plenty of common research areas so that very active collaboration and exchange of researchers are expected under this agreement.
