Master/Doctor course student in University of Tsukuba

You can study on-surface chemistry with high-resolution scanning probe microscopy as a master/phD student in University of Tsukuba. We welcome a highly-motivated candidate who has any background such as chemistry, physics and engineering, as well as of course surface science/chemistry. Detailed information about the entrance examination of University of Tsukuba can be found on the website: NIMS Graduate Program. We have a financial support program, called NIMS Junior, based on the selection with the score of the entrance examination. In contrast to other NIMS graduate school programs, the Tsukuba University-NIMS graduated program offers the Master course, thus a student can take master and doctor courses in a same group with consistency.

  • Master course: c.a.160 k yen/month (11 days)
  • Doctor course: c.a 200 k yen/month (14 days)

  •  A candidate is requested to have a good score of TOEIC/TOEFL, which would be of importance not only for passing the entrance examination but also for conducting scientific activities (presenting in conference/writing articles) later on. If you have any question, please feel free to contract to Kawai.

     Postdoctoral researcher

Currently, we have one open position with our research budget (2023/06/18). For a candidate, who wants to apply for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan and NIMS International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS), please consult to us.

     Short stay

For a student who wants to stay in our group for less than three months, please first consult to your own supervisor and get his/her agreement. We offer NIMS Internship Program, which covers costs of travel to Tsukuba and accommodation during your stay. There are calls twice in a year. Please also refer the list of our previous internship students.

     Research collaboration

Please contact to Kawai, directly. We have conducted our research activities with many collaborators. NIMS also offer several programs (i.e. NIMS連携拠点推進制度 (in Japanese)), which supports costs of travel and accommodation.
