Research and Development Theme1:Protocol for Battery Analysis and Development

The research and development of batteries is dependent on the experiences. Additionally, it takes a long time to apply new materials to commercial applications because repeated prototyping, evaluation, and analysis are required. Furthermore, when new materials are utilized in batteries, the performance of individual materials is often not maximized, and the battery overall characteristic is not improved.

In this study, there are three targets.
・「small, highly reliable batteries supporting IoT society」
・「next-generation batteries for the innovation to transportation and logistics」
・「low-cost, large-capacity batteries that contribute to the spreading of renewable energy and disaster prevention and mitigation」
As fundamental research to achieve these targets, a battery designing protocol that integrates not only generally-common analytical techniques but also synchrotron radiation measurements, computer science using the supercomputer Fugaku, and battery simulation techniques will be established.

By utilizing this protocol, it becomes possible to predict the performance of batteries composed of new materials and visualize problems that hinder the characteristics. This will significantly accelerate research and development, from basic and material research to implementation in actual batteries.
