Access to the Tsukuba from major airports
The Tsukuba is known as "Tsukuba Science City", and it has been developed in order to carry out world-level research works. Abundant national research institutes and university are located in the city, and many foreign researchers, engineers, and students are working/studying there.
1. Please complete your registration including payment (registration starts in April). If you have problems with paying by credit card, you can proceed to the next step.
2. Please send an email to
REPM2025@nims.go.jp requesting the documents required for a short-term visa, that are an invitation letter and the related documents. Please attach to the email a copy of your passport and a tentative travel itinerary, which template can be downloaded below. Note that the travel itinerary is also a required document to apply for the Japanese visa in some countries.
3. After confirming the status of your registration and payment, the invitation letter and the related documents will be sent to you by email.
