Launching Ceremony of International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA).
The International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) was opened on 1st October 2007. The launching ceremony was held at Okura Frontier Hotel, Tsukuba, on 18th October 2007.
The launching ceremony of the MANA project at NIMS started with greeting addresses by NIMS President, Prof. Teruo Kishi, and Mr. Akira Yoshikawa from MEXT. Next, Prof. Masakazu Aono (MANA Director-General) presented the outline of the MANA program and Dr. Takahiro Fujita (MANA Administrative Director) explained about the Internationalization at NIMS. The ceremony closed with talks about contributions to the MANA program by Prof. James K. Gimzewski from UCLA (MANA Principal Investigator and Satellite Co-Director) and Prof. Christian Joachim from CNRS (MANA Principal Investigator).

At the banquet, congratulatory addresses to the launch of the MANA program were delivered by Prof. Yoichi Iwasaki, President of University of Tsukuba, and Prof. Shin Takeuchi, President of Tokyo University of Science. MANA Principal Investigators, MANA young scientists, MANA chief scientist and other national researchers of ICYS attended the banquet.
Before the MANA launching ceremony, many guests attended a laboratory tour at NIMS, which included the new MANA institutions.
