Laser-assisted-APT developed by NIMS
Laser-assisted atom probe tomography (APT) operates similarly to voltage-pulse-assisted APT, except that atoms are field-evaporated by the irradiation of laser pulses instead of voltage pulses. NIMS has found that using a short-wavelength laser (355 nm) enables the field evaporation of insulating ceramics. As a result, even bulk insulating ceramics can be analyzed using APT. This was achieved for the first time in the world with this in-house APT system.
