Introduction

TS-1 (July 20-21)

Session Chair: Takahiro Sawaguchi
The New Strategy for Microstructures and Mechanical Properties
This session is to discuss new approaches for microstructures, in particular planar defects such as twins and boundaries, and mechanical properties of structural materials. A special emphasis is placed on new strategies for sustainability (light weight, high temperature resistant, high toughness materials).

TS-2 (July 20-21)

Session Chair: Seiichiro Ii
Advanced Microstructural Characterization and Modeling
-Present Situation and Future Perspectives-
This session focuses on a state-of-the-art microstructural characterization and computational modeling techniques. Their present situations and future perspectives for the development of the structural materials will be discussed from the experimental and theoretical viewpoints.

TS-3 (July 20)

Session Chair: Eiji Akiyama
Surface Science for Harsh Environment
The session will focus on the latest studies of surface science and technology for degradation and protection of materials in wet, hot and physiological environments and so forth.
Guiding principles for developing reliable and durable materials against the harsh environments will be discussed.

TS-4 (July 21)

Session Chair: Yoshiyuki Furuya
Material Reliability and Database
This session will discuss material reliability-related topics, such as creep, fatigue, corrosion and so on. 2 invited researchers will present 1 hour-lectures and 5 NIMS researchers will present 40 minutes lectures, respectively. This session will be held in Japanese.
