NIMS Proposals (Application Overview)

2. BL15XU Rules and Regulations

Before you submit your research proposal, please read, understand and agree to comply with the BL15XU Rules and Regulations.

Policy

  1. Experiments at BL15XU are "collaborative researches" with the beamline staff. Discussions before, during, and after the experiment are essential.
  2. In principle, the experimental results obtained at the beamline shall be disclosed to the public. When publicizing these results, as a collaborator, the beamline staff should peruse and agree to the publication. Please contact the beamline station director and beamline staff before publication to discuss how to handle the contribution.
  3. As for 2, if there are any reasons to hesitate publicizing the experimental results for circumstances such as patent, please obtain the beamline station director's permission.

Proposer as the manager of the experimental team

  1. The Proposer is the manager of the experimental team. The proposer must prepare and submit all documents for all team members.

Proposer as the Manager of the Experimental Team

  1. The Proposer is the manager of the experimental team. The Proposer must prepare and submit all documents for all team members.
  2. BL15XU Office will inform necessary application procedures to the Proposer . Note that the BL15XU Office will only correspond to the Proposer, or proxy, and not to each individual team member.
  3. During the experiment, the Proposer will be responsible for the team. Be sure that the experiment will not be carried out without the Proposer.
  4. All users must have adequate injury insurance to cover all eventualities. The proposer must ensure that all team members are protected by adequate insurance.

Reports

  1. The Proposer must submit an "Experiment Summary Report" via the SPring-8 website within 50 days after the end of the concerning research term.
  2. The Proposer must publish the research results in a refereed journal (including refereed proceedings and dissertations) or in a form prescribed by the BL15XU Office within three years after the end of the concerning research term. Note that the proposal number must be specified. If the publication is not completed on time, it will be considered a proprietary research and the Proposer must pay beamtime fee.
  3. Please cooperate when we ask the Proposer or proxy to attend users meetings and make presentations.

Prior Meetings

  1. It is essential to prepare for the experiment beforehand to obtain good results within the restricted beamtime. Details of the experiment should be arranged and discussed with the beamline staff in advance. Those who refuse prior meetings will not be able to use the beamline.
  2. Beamline staff may advise you take prior practice of machine operation at SPring-8.

Safety Instructions

  1. Please follow the beamline staff’s instructions and manuals that have been given.
  2. Please follow SPring-8 Safety Measures that are required upon arrival.
  3. Please prevent actions that may cause danger. In large synchrotron radiation facilities like SPring-8, dangerous actions can cause serious consequences to other beamlines.
  4. In case of any failure or problem during an experiment, please contact the beamline staff and follow the instructions.
  5. Please do not use or take home beamline articles without permission.
  6. All equipment, samples, chemicals, including chemical waste, shall be taken back with you. If there are any reasons that you cannot do so, please inform the beamline staff and obtain the Beamline Station Leader’s permission.
  7. When consuming a large amount of expensive supplies or when new equipment is to be provided for a certain team, we may charge the appropriate cost to the Proposer.
  8. Thoughtless behaviors, such as using equipment without permission, or disregarding the beamline staff’s advice, may damage the conditions of the beamline. We will charge the Proposer to restore the conditions to the normal state.

Afterword

If these rules are broken without the Station Director’s permission, your experiment will be suspended and your future proposals will be rejected.
