About

Our ambition goes far beyond conventional materials development. We are creating next-generation materials that harmonize with biological systems and function autonomously, grounded in a hierarchical understanding spanning molecular design to nano- and macroscale structures. By integrating precision synthesis, reaction and structural control, manufacturing processes, and applications in medicine and healthcare, we drive truly interdisciplinary research that opens entirely new frontiers in materials science.

At our center, we advance two powerful pillars: multiscale bio-adaptive materials and foundational soft polymer technologies that will trigger a materials revolution. We push molecular functionality to its limits, pioneering transformative materials through the integration of organic, inorganic, and biological design. In doing so, we establish fundamentally new material concepts aligned with the hierarchical nature of life, redefining the very framework of materials science.

Furthermore, by fusing cutting-edge biotechnology with engineering, we accelerate the creation of biomaterials that will fundamentally transform next-generation medicine. Through breakthroughs in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, as well as advanced biosensing and monitoring systems, we aim to redefine healthcare itself.

In addition, by integrating data-driven research with autonomous experimentation, we dramatically enhance both the speed and precision of materials discovery—reshaping the very nature of how discoveries are made.

Polymer and biomaterials have the power to transform the future of society. As a global frontrunner, our center is committed to turning this potential into reality and leading materials innovation from Japan onto the world stage.

Director/Field Director
Dr. Prof. NAITO, Masanobu

In the field of soft / polymer materials, we are engaged in the research and development of soft/polymer materials in which molecular functions play an important role.
We establish fundamental technologies to maximize the potential of soft/ polymer materials by utilizing state-of-the-art molecular technologies such as organic synthesis, structural control, and evaluation of molecular properties, as well as molding, processing, and solution coating/printing technologies.
By sublimating these results into the collective knowledge of our field, we will contribute to the development of soft/polymer materials that contribute to our society.
