Our research objective is to investigate the essential constituents
for the realization of a functional nano- electronic system.
From the standpoint of nanoscience, we are aiming to produce a functional
nano-system, and addressing of that system.
From the surface science standpoint, we wish to utilize selective
reactions as a chpiemical fabrication method for the
modification of a nanostructure. To date, we have been observing
ULSI processes with scanning tunneling microscopy
at elevated temperatures, as well as other chemical analysis, and
we intend to take a new direction to search for selective
chemical reactions, as we believe that this could be a powerful
tool for the control of nanostructures.
One example of the functional design of a nanostructural system
is in the area of 'atomic and molecular wires interconnects'
where we have discovered the Bi nanoline as shown in the figure
above. An example of addressing of a nanoscale system is
electroluminescence from a single molecule as a single light source.
