Safe and efficient solid-mediated transfection by silica film composed by upright-sheet network
Potential cell therapy for hemophilia, diabetes or intractable diseases and genetic disorders
August 2, 2012
Researchers in MANA Supermolecules Unit and Biomaterials Unit have successfully developed a new silica film composed by upright-sheets network for the substrate-mediated reverse gene transfection. The dense upright nanosheet network favors the immobilizaiton of DNA and subsequent cell transfection even without recombinant proteins. Transgene expression indicated that the silica film possesses higher transfection efficiency than the conventional solution-based transfection. Due to not requiring the animal originated gene transfer agents in this case, a more simple, safe and effective gene transfection is expected.
