When Superconductivity Meets Nano Materials and Nano Systems
The year 2011 is the 100th anniversary of superconductivity. In the present talk, after reviewing briefly the history of superconductivity, I will focus on the Josephson effect, a 50-year-old, celebrated property of superconductivity as a macroscopic quantum state. I will introduce several phenomena taking place when superconductivity meets nano materials and nano systems, such as (i) a novel state in stacks of nano Josephson junctions built in cuprate superconductors and its application to THz radiations, discovered shortly after the inauguration of MANA, and (ii) quantum entanglement of electrons manipulated by nano-structured superconductors and quantum dots. You will see our typical approach to quantum, strongly coupled and nonlinear systems, using computer simulation, visualization as well as paper-and-pencil, namely mathematics.
