Accepting Applications for Ph.D. Students

Biosystem and Biomolecule Control Group manages the Laboratory for Frontier Biomaterials Science (doctoral program), Graduate School of Life Science, Hokkaido University. We educate and guide the research of graduate students who seek to obtain a Ph.D degree. In the Laboratory for Frontier Biomaterials Science, we carry out transdisciplinary research in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, nanotechnology, and materials science. Our research seeks to elucidate basic phenomena of biological functions and apply them to medical technologies. We are recruiting students who have a desire to actively pursue creating innovations by integrating biological sciences with nanotechnology and materials science.

Entrance exams are held twice a year in January and August at the Graduate School of Life Science (Sapporo City). Admitted students carry out research at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) (Tsukuba City).

NIMS provides grants (about 180,000 yen per month) to students who possess outstanding abilities as part of its “NIMS Junior Researcher Program” to create an environment in which students can concentrate on research without worrying about living expenses.

The Laboratory for Frontier Biomaterials also supports mid-career researchers who wish to obtain a doctoral degree.
