The first step in securing the safety and security of our society is to sense the risks that threaten us. We believe that ultimately, to deal with the many and various existing risks, as well as the limitless new risks that will continue to emerge, it is essential that “Intelligent” sensing systems are capable of determining risk levels themselves—that is, that they are equipped with intelligence.
  To realize intelligent sensing systems like these a reality, we are conducting research based on our firm belief that it is indispensable to clarify the mechanisms of sensor functions. At the same time, given that Japanese research and development on sensor materials and systems are believed to be almost the top level in the world, we take a fundamental approach to R&D in the field of sensors. But in order to utilize the fruits of our research in real sensing systems, we rely on the wide-ranging cooperation of all parties.
