Highlights

Day1

NIMS Award Ceremony and Academic Symposium

Quantum Revolution in Nanomaterials

November 17th[Wed.] 10:00~16:35(JST) English Program (No Japanese translation)

The field of "research on quantum materials" is rapidly moving from theory to practical application.
NIMS Award 2021 winners, who have made a breakthrough in the development of next-generation quantum devices using ultimate two-dimensional materials such as graphene, will draw a picture on the future of quantum technology. We will also hold an academic symposium where the key scientists who are leading quantum materials research in Japan will gather.

Day2

NIMS Showcase 2021

November 18th, [Thu.] 10:00~15:00(JST) Japanese Program (No English translation)

Do not miss out this opportunity to learn our innovative new materials for joint research and technology transfer! Register with us to find out about our 50 new outstanding materials and technologies with excellent performance; e.g. materials for excellent environmental impact reduction and resource recycling, and AI technology to accelerate your R&D.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), which was established as an independent administrative institution in 2001. The 6th Science, Technology, and Innovation Basic Plan covering the five years from this fiscal year describes Society 5.0 (super-smart society) as the society we should aim for. Our mission is to lead Japan's materials science overall from the forefront and to play roles as a global core institution in order to enhance innovative materials that are essential for realizing this goal. We will make further efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of materials industry in Japan by improving its fundamental and basic research ability and by creating more opportunities of open innovation.

Once a year, NIMS holds "NIMS WEEK", an event to introduce our latest academic achievements and technologies that are expected to be put into practical use. The NIMS Award is given to the world's top scientists who have achieved innovative results in the field of materials science, and an academic symposium is held to commemorate the award. This event also includes an exhibition of the latest results of NIMS that allows participants to experience the forefront of materials research. In view of the situation that the novel coronavirus is not still under control, the NIMS WEEK 2021 will be held online for two days, following the last year's event.

Through this NIMS WEEK, I would like you to see the front line of evolving materials research.
We look forward to your participation.

Kazuhito Hashimoto
