Dr. Yukiko Takahashi et al. reported a large spin signal from a lateral spin valves with metallic junctions between Co₂Fe(Ge_0.5Ga_0.5) Heusler alloy and Cu in Applied Physics Letters, 100, 052405 (2012). The spin signal was 17 times larger than that reported for permalloy/Cu lateral spin valve, and is the largest for LSV without oxide tunnel barrier. Since the device resistance is low, it is expected to be suitable for narrow read sensors of ultrahigh density hard disk drives.
