We perform research on the design, bulk crystal growth, and characterization of new single crystal materials, aiming at the fabrication of next generation of single crystal based devices. A wide range of crystals for optical applications is covered: laser and nonlinear optical crystals, magneto-optical crystals, scintillator/dosimeter crystals are the main targets of the research. Furthermore, widebandgap semiconductor, piezoelectric and ferroelectric single crystals are also investigated. The research is centered on a wide variety of material systems, from oxide and nitride systems to halide (fluorides, chlorides, etc.) ones, focusing on the development of proper growth techniques to achieve the best material properties. Collaboration with universities, institutes and industries are actively promoted, and the international cooperation is also actively pursued in order to promote new viewpoints and original ideas. We aim at the development of a wide range of new single crystals with superior properties, passing from the fundamental research to prototype testing for industrialization.
