What’s iSM?

NIMS has several clusters that consists of researchers in multiple units in order to promote research fields to be important before long. NIMS-iSM is a one of the clusters related to variety of structural materials such as steels, light metals, engineering ceramics, intermetallic compounds, polymer composite and so on. Missions of the cluster is as follows.

  1. Strengthen collaboration among the scientists for variety of structural materials to enhance the ability of research works in NIMS
  2. Establish an international alliance in the field of structural materials through coordination by NIMS as a hub institution
  3. Focus on fundamental research to breakaway from empirical rules and formulate an universalized methodology
