表題/Title:

Role of atomic-layer stacking to magnetocrystalline anisotropy in metal thin-films

講演要旨/Abstract:

Efforts in searching materials with a large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) have continued in multilayer thin films in which the PMA may be achieved by tuning atomic-layer alignments.[1] Here, by using film full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method,[2] the role of atomic-layer stacking to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA) in metal thin films is presented. First, the effect of structural asymmetry to the MCA of Co-Pt/Pd-based multilayers is discussed, where an asymmetric stacking, i.e. the Co/Pd/Pt-multilayer, induces a large PMA compared to that of the symmetric Co/Pt and Co/Pd multilayers. Next, the atomic-layer alignment dependence to the MCA in the Co-Fe multilayers on MgO(001) is analyzed. It is indeed found that although the MCA complicatedly behaves to the atomic-layer alignments, there is a key atomic-layer alignment for the large PMA.
