Event Report

"NIMS WEEK 2016" was held October 20 & 21 (Thu. & Fri.), 2016, at the Tokyo International Forum (Yurakucho).

This event, with the theme of "MEGA EVOLUTION of MATERIALS," is a combination of the previously held international science meeting "NIMS Conference," and technology exhibition "NIMS Forum." The program combines "an international meeting place for discussion on facilitation of materials science research" with "a research exhibit facilitating technology transfer for leading edge research."

Day 2
Interactive NIMS
10/21 (Fri.)
Hall B7
On the 21st, with a title of "Interactive NIMS," research results focused on technology transfer were presented.

At the venue, a focused presentation of 73 posters of NIMS research results expected to be implemented in society, a selection of 8 research results in the lecture space of the venue, as well as an individually coordinated consultation corner related to technology transfer to industry were shown. Continuing from last year, a recent topic in materials research "materials informatics" was presented, and Professor Dam Hieu Chi (Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and Professor Voorhees (Northwestern University) lectured on the current and future state of Japan-American research. In addition, in one corner of the venue, to mark the 60/50/15th anniversary of the insitute's previous existence as the National Research Institute for Metals (NRIM), National Institute for Research in Inorganic Materials (NIRIM), as well as its current establishment, a commemorative anniversary exhibition was established, where a choronology, sample results and developments of principle accomplishments were displayed.
